1. What we own

The course content, practice questions, worked solutions, diagrams, interactive activities, page designs and software on PiGrids are ours, and are protected by the Copyright Act 1968(Cth). "PiGrids" and our logo are our trademarks.

2. The syllabuses we follow

PiGrids covers all eight Australian states and territories. Each course is built to the syllabus that applies where the student actually goes to school, published by that jurisdiction's curriculum or assessment authority:

• New South Wales - NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), leading to the HSC.
• Victoria - Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), leading to the VCE.
• Queensland - Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), leading to the QCE.
• Western Australia - School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), leading to the WACE.
• South Australia - SACE Board of South Australia, leading to the SACE.
• Tasmania - Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification (TASC), leading to the TCE.
• Northern Territory - SACE Board of South Australia, leading to the NTCET.
• Australian Capital Territory - ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS), leading to the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate.

Outside New South Wales and Victoria, primary and junior-secondary courses follow the Australian Curriculum, published by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), as each jurisdiction adopts or adapts it.

3. How we use them

Every one of those documents is published by its authority and is publicly available. We use them for one purpose: to work out which topics a course covers, in what order, and to what depth. We do not copy or paraphrase their wording, worked examples, questions, contexts, numbers or figures. Ours are written from scratch.

What we take from a syllabus is the facts it states: the topics, the sequence, and the identifiers. Where it helps you find the original, we cite an outcome code or a topic name. Every outcome statement you read on PiGrids is our own summary in our own words, not the authority's text. Copyright protects the way something is written, not the mathematics itself, and it is the mathematics we teach.

Copyright in those syllabuses stays with the authority that published them, and the terms differ between them. Much of the Australian Curriculum is published by ACARA under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, though that licence does not cover everything on its site - logos, trade marks, photographs and some teacher-support resources are excluded. NESA material is Crown copyright with all rights reserved, and the concession NESA extends to schools and home-schooling families expressly does not extend to commercial services like ours. Other authorities set their own terms again.

We resolve that difference by taking nothing from any of them that would need a licence. We do not rely on the CC BY licence, and we do not reproduce or adapt NESA material. If we ever want to reproduce or adapt substantial syllabus content, we will ask that authority in writing first. Nothing on this page gives you any rights in their material; for that, go to the authority.

4. Which versions we mapped to

So you know what "mapped" means here, these are the documents our courses were mapped against:

• New South Wales - NSW Mathematics K-10 (2022), and Mathematics 11-12 (2024) for the senior years.
• Victoria - Victorian Curriculum F-10 version 2.0, and the VCE study design for the senior years.
• Western Australia - the WA Curriculum (Pre-primary to Year 10), and the SCSA syllabuses for the senior years.
• Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT - the Australian Curriculum version 9.0, and each authority's own senior subject outlines or syllabuses.

Authorities republish. When one does, we re-map the affected courses and update this list. If this page and an authority's current syllabus disagree, the authority is right and we are out of date - tell us.

5. Their names, and ours

HSC, VCE, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCET and the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate are the credentials of the authorities named above, and those names and marks belong to them. We use them descriptively, to say which course a piece of our material is written for, and we do not use any authority's logo, crest or branding.

PiGrids is independently developed. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, approved by, or connected to any curriculum or assessment authority, any state or territory department of education, or any government. Nothing here is an official publication of any of them, and we will never describe ourselves as official, approved, accredited, certified or partnered.

If you are a curriculum or assessment authority and you consider anything here misdescribes your relationship with us, write to [email protected] and we will correct it.

6. What you may do

While your account is active you have a personal, non-exclusive licence to use the material for study - your own, or that of the student whose account you hold. You may print or download pages for that purpose, and keep what you have printed.

Teachers and tutors may print and use our material with students they personally teach, keeping our name on it. That is a use we want; you do not need to ask.

7. What you may not do

• Republish it anywhere public, including a school intranet, shared drive or social media.
• Sell it, or include it in anything you sell.
• Share your login, or export in bulk - by script, scraper or automation.
• Use it to train, fine-tune or ground another product, including an AI system.
• Remove our name, or present the material as your own.

Fair dealing under the Copyright Act - research, study, criticism, review - is unaffected by anything here.

8. Telling us we have infringed yours

We write everything ourselves and use reference material only to check what a syllabus covers, as described in section 3. If you are a curriculum authority, a publisher, or anyone else who believes something here copies your work, email [email protected] with the page, what you believe it copies, and how we can verify you own it. We will acknowledge within 5 working days, and remove or rewrite anything we cannot satisfy ourselves is original while we look into it. We would rather take something down and check than leave it up and argue.

9. Reporting misuse of ours

If you find our material republished or sold somewhere it should not be, tell us at the same address. Where an account is involved we may suspend it under our Terms of Service.

10. Permission

For anything beyond section 6 - a school licence, a partnership, or reproducing material in your own publication - just ask. We answer.
